@archer Glad it worked! Anytime I have issues with displays I try to SSH/SFTP in to see if the Pi is actually up and running or if it's just not booting.

I have them in my Amazon cart , just waiting to pull the trigger 😁. I will let you know how they compare.

@totallyice Please re-read my previous message. Your system is stuck in a reboot loop so you're not going to be able to access the command line to make any modifications to fix the problem.
In order to fix this error, you'll need to delete/disable the Controlblock service, but you'll either need a Linux computer to read the card's Linux partition (won't work from Windows/macOS) or you can try booting into 'safe mode' on your PI system to have a command line to make modifications. See https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/672/a-stop-job-is-running-for-lsb-controlblockservice-init-script/13.

@dereksanderson Firstly, the Raspberry Pi is an ARM based single board computer as opposed to a x86 intel based pc. You cannot therefore expect a linux based "image" that has been configured for a Raspberry Pi to boot on a pc. You will need to follow the documentation to achieve what you want...

      https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Debian

Second thing to note regarding "a great image from MLPIXEL (a 32GB) which boots on Rasperry Pi ". If this has roms then it is illegal. You should check out point 5 of https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first as indicated from @buzz as I was typing this very line.

The length and quality of your HDMI cable could actually have been the culprit, as you said.
You may want to try with a better/shorter cable.
Another way could be to boost the HDMI signal by editing config.txt, see here : https://elinux.org/RPiconfig#Video But a good cable is a better solution.

I can confirm it was the SD card. I bought a new one and made all updates. After that everything runs as intended. :)

PS: I buyed a more expensive SanDisk Extreme. Much faster than the SanDisk Ultra I had before!

Ok, that did the trick. Strangely though, after I changed the setting and tried getting back into the UI, the graphics were all black sans the menu options in the lower left. Went ahead and did a basic install, and now I'm back in business. Thanks @AlexMurphy and @BuZz !!

      Now to get Reicast working...

@jlauerutk said in Retropie / RPi Zero Wont boot after 2 days working:

@AlexMurphy so dumb question time... What is the best way to shut down ?

      There are many ways.

You can press start, navigate to quit, and select shutdown.
You can build a button attached to the gpio that sends a shutdown command.
You can use an addon board to send this signal and to completely shut down the power so that you don't have to pull the plug anymore.
You can ssh and sudo shutdown

The main thing is to pick a method and always do it.

@AlexMurphy said in Pocket PiGRRL image won't boot:

@basteluwe You are asking RetroPie why their image works and a third party modified image doesn't? You would really need to address your query to adafruit whose image it is.

No, I'm not asking Retropie! I'm asking experianced guys here at this forum for advice!
But forget it. I used the basic package and did the changes manually myself. So, problem solved (for me at least).
